TheTieXchange.com users depend on one another to keep this website a professional place to exchange their items. With that in mind, here’s an overview of the rules for everyone to follow. These topics and the other rules that govern use of the site are covered more fully in your User Agreement.

An Exchange is a Contract
Once you agree to an exchange, you enter into a binding contract with your exchanging partner. Do not agree to an exchange unless you are certain that you will fulfill it. TheTieXchange.com recommends not posting anything on the site that you're not certain you'd like to exchange away for something new.

Eligibility to Exchange
Agreements to exchange are binding contracts, so you need to be 18 years of age or older to register on the site. If you are under 18 and would like to exchange your stuff on TheTieXchange.com, you need to use the site in conjunction with your parent or legal guardian.

Exchanging Like Items
Exchanging on TheTieXchange.com is like-item for like-item: ties can be exchanged only for other ties, cuff links for other cuff links etc. This means you can only request a tie from the site if you've posted at least one tie of your own under “Items I’ve Posted." If, for example, you find and select a tie from the master list of available items but have no tie’s in your collection, you'll receive a message indicating you don't have an item to exchange in this category and that you should choose another type of item or visit the “Post More Items” page to post a tie or cuff links.

Membership Fee
Will apply when you sign up for a membership. See membership page
The Exchanging Fee
The transaction fee per exchange fee will only be charged to your account after you complete an exchange on the site.

Piracy Not Permitted
On TheTieXchange.com, you can only exchange items which have been manufactured and sold commercially, not things you created yourself which otherwise infringe someone’s rights. This policy helps ensure the items you'll receive in exchange will be of uniform quality. It also keeps TheTieXchange.com from becoming a marketplace for pirated goods, which is contrary to the principles of our exchanging community.

No Pornography
Pornography is not permitted on TheTieXchange.com and our database matching system is designed to prevent exchanging in pornographic titles.

Prompt Mailing
When your exchange is complete, you are expected to mail the item you've exchanged within three days. If you delay the mailing you run the risk of getting negative feedback from the person you're exchanging with.

TheTieXchange.com strongly recommends that you pre-purchase stamps and envelopes before you engage in exchanging, so you'll be ready to fulfill exchanges right away.

Shipping Your Item
When you finish an exchange, you’ll see a pre-printed address label that you can simply cut out and tape to your package. In most cases, you’ll also be told exactly how much it costs to mail your item to its destination, using the U.S. Mail.
So here’s all you have to do:

  • Just find or buy a padded envelope large enough to contain your item. (TheTieXchange.com recommends size #01.)
  • Print and affix the address label that appears on the “How to Complete Your Exchange Page.”
  • Affix the postage the site tells you to use.
  • The package is ready to send!

If the site doesn’t know how much it will cost to mail your item (a rarity), you’ll be told that, too. In that case, you’ll have to weigh your item at the post office or on a home postal scale.
Condition of Items
While the vast majority of items exchanged on TheTieXchange.com have been used by their previous owners, they must still be in good condition. When listing items for exchanging, members are asked to rate the condition of the items on a two-category scale - “Excellent” to “Good.” Providing an honest description makes exchanging on TheTieXchange.com a satisfying experience for everyone and provides you meaningful feedback from your exchanging partners.

Use of Other’s Personal Information
Once an exchange is agreed upon, exchanging partners are provided with each other’s names, e-mail addresses and mailing addresses. This information is provided so that the exchange can be completed, i.e., so that media items can be mailed to each partner, and so that you can use e-mail to check with each other on the mailing status of your items. In order to protect members’ privacy, there are a few rules regarding the contacting of a exchanging partner for any other reason. See your User Agreement for more information. If you think another user has violated these rules with respect to your personal information, please contact TheTieXchange.com.

Changing Your Screen Name
Your record as an exchanger is so important to other members, users aren't allowed to change or transfer their screen names. Allowing name changes would make it much easier for an unscrupulous person to evade a bad exchanging record and take advantage of people. So choose a screen name use you're pleased with—it's yours for your entire TheTieXchange.com life.

Your Account and Password
You need to keep your TheTieXchange.com account password confidential because you are responsible for any exchanging that takes place under your screen name. Account passwords can be changed at any time by visiting My Account and updating the password section.

Feedback
When it comes to a business transaction, we all like to work with people we trust, who have a record of fair dealing. That's why TheTieXchange.com lets members leave feedback about their exchanging experiences with others. And we let you decide who you feel comfortable exchanging with, based on their exchanging histories. The user rating system tells you how members have performed in past transactions, based on the feedback left by their past exchanging partners.

When looking at a member’s user rating, you should keep in mind that disagreements can arise between users and that a single piece of negative feedback, or very few in an otherwise positive exchanging history, shouldn't necessarily mark the user as a bad bet to exchange with. In addition, we recommend that you also read any comments left about a member by former exchanging partners, which can give more information.

Because a member’s rating is so important, you are asked to use common sense and good judgment when leaving feedback for another member of the TheTieXchange.com community. Specifically, keep in mind that you cannot go back and edit feedback that you have already left, and the feedback you leave will become a permanent part of a member's user rating. You also want to avoid making comments that could be libelous or defamatory. Learn more by reviewing the Feedback Policy.

Settling Disputes
In the rare event that a dispute arises between members, the best idea is to try to work it out privately through e-mail before leaving feedback. If, for example, you receive an item that’s in worse condition than described, you might want to e-mail your exchanging partner before doing anything else. You can say you're dissatisfied and perhaps that you'd like your original item returned, possibly with your dollar fee and the cost of four stamps included. If the other member agrees, you might consider holding back on giving that person negative feedback. Usually the possibility of negative feedback, which can harm a member's ability to exchange, is enough to bring about a resolution.

If you can't remedy the situation, you are free to leave negative feedback—including any brief comments you wish to add—on the "My Completed Exchanges" page.

TheTieXchange.com provides a community where users can exchange and leave feedback, but the site is not actually involved in users’ transactions. For this reason, and under the terms of the User Agreement, we don’t play a role in mediating user disputes.

Suspension
The TheTieXchange.com exchanging community is full of users just like you, who behave responsibly with their exchanging partners. However, as in any community, there are always a few bad residents. Under the User Agreement, TheTieXchange.com may warn or suspend a user if they breach any part of the User Agreement, including by defrauding other members.
